Acne Scars and How They Can be Treated

Catherine Tyler asked:

ot a debilitating disease. Under normal or acceptable ’severity’, supposedly it is not. But when the acne is starting to almost cover your entire face or just interferes with your daily activities and interactions with other people, acne really becomes a seriously debilitating disease.

When a person is in the process of having acne, what does he do? He will have it treated, of course. The usual modes of acne treatment vary in the severity of the problem. If it is only mild, home remedies and the usual facial care such as proper facial wash twice a day is enough. If the problem is moderate, then topical and oral medications are given along with pricking of the pimples at times. Sever acne usually leads to more drastic measures such as a combination of topical and oral medications plus pricking plus iontophoresis and the like.

With all the modes of treatment, individuals usually resort to taking the matter into their own hands either out of desperation or to ‘help’ the treatment. What do they do? They prick the pimple and/or scrape it off. What they do not know is that instead of solving the problem, they are only aggravating it by introducing more bacteria to the broken skin plus adding trauma to it, too. This is why a lot of people who have acne always have acne scars.

Having acne scars is another set of problem. Although it means that the acne problem is resolved, the scars pose another problem. It used to be that people think that acne scars, or any scar for that matter, will never go away since they are the ‘healed skin’. This is a misconception since skin cells always regenerate, it may take time but scarring is a temporary appearance of the skin. However, if the acne scars lower self-esteem just like the acne, then some interventions such as acne scar treatments could be done to solve the problem.

There are a lot of ways to treat acne scars. First off is the natural way which consists of frequent exercising (to increasing blood flow to all parts of the body including your face) and eating healthy foods, especially the ones rich in protein and Vitamin C. To help hasten the treatment of the acne scars, the use of AHA (alpha- hydroxyl-acids) and BHA (beta hydroxyl acids) are used topically to help the skin in its remodeling process. Also, regular skin exfoliation is encouraged to rid the skin off its deal cells and thus make room for the new ones.

However, there are just some acne scars that will take a lot of effort to heal them. Dermal fillers are often given via injection to the affected site to raise the skin surface and thus, give the person an even skin. This is usually given to those people with ice-pick scars. For those scars that are very hard to treat, punch excision is often done to excise (or cut away) the skin with the scar and instead of closing it off with a suture; fill it with a skin taken from another part of the person’s body such as behind the earlobe.

8 Ways to Remove or Improve the Look of an Acne Scar

Ingrid Lihan asked:

Acne is a skin condition that does not cause life threatening problems but can cause an acne scar to stay around for a long time damaging self-esteem. Most every young adult who is going through or has gone through puberty is a victim of acne. The hormones produce too much sebum, or oil in the skin, and acne breakouts occur. It is an inevitable fact that acne will appear but the acne scar does not have to be a memory it leaves behind. The eight tips listed here will help to remove the scar.

Hydrate The Skin

Water is known as beneficial to the body in all parts of the world. It is a way to clean the body of the toxins to include acne scar removal. Taking in proper amounts of water every day will help heal scars faster and easier. It will also prevent breakouts from happening in the future.

Vitamin E Intake

Internally taking Vitamin E capsules each day will help to reduce and eliminate the acne scar. The Vitamin E oil can also be applied topically to the skin for an added bonus. This vitamin is best known for its ability to speed up the skin cell renew process which is key to healing.

Rosehip Seed Oil Benefits
Rosehip Seed oil is great for acne scar elimination. It works well in removing wrinkles and aging signs. Its effectiveness in removing scars has been proven. When applied to the skin, it also helps to rejuvenate the skin cells.

Healthy Diet

A balanced diet full of nutritious things will be an effective tool in the fight against scars. Experts in the problems associated with acne will tell you the more good food you add to the diet, the healthier the skin will become.

Rosewater and Sandalwood Combination Paste

When Sandalwood and Rose Water is combined, the effects are remarkable on acne scars. The mixture needs to be applied to the area affected by acne and left on the skin overnight. Rinse the area in the morning with cool water for the best results possible.

Dermabrasion For Skin Layer Removal

Dermabrasion will help to remove the damaged layers of skin and reduce the signs of the acne scar. The outer layer is removed and the scar is also removed. The skin will appear clear and smooth again. You can only have this performed at a certified salon or clinic and it may take more than one treatment for complete removal.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

This treatment is considered one of the most effective ways to remove acne scars. The laser is applied to the affected skin and puts high energy into the skin cells that will be the ones to heal the acne. Wrinkles will also be prevented with the laser treatment.

Chemical Skin Peels

This treatment does the same thing as the dermabrasion treatment except it must be done by a clinic. The top layer of the skin is peeled off by the chemical mixture added. This may not be the right choice for everyone who is suffering from the problems of acne scarring especially those with allergies.

Acne Scar Treatments - Get Rid of Acne Scars Easily

Dr John Anne asked:

The Perils of Acne

Acne is a skin condition faced by teens and adults. It is predominantly caused by the clogging of oil glands and the resulting inflammation. For some, it is not just a matter of having pimples on the face but a potentially disfiguring condition. Acne often leaves scars on the face. Remember, your mom telling not to squeeze that annoyingly ripe-looking pimple sitting on your nose? She was right.

Then, what should we do? What are we going to make the scars go away? And how do we stop acne from making our lives so difficult? How do we start acne scar treatment?

Getting In Touch With Mother Earth It is not a hippy or flower-power thing. Getting in touch with Mother Earth is a healthy and wholesome way. And Mother Earth has some helpful tips and suggestions for all types of problems, including acne scar treatment.

One good way to start working hand-in-hand with Mother Earth is going the natural or herbal way. This method is gentle and non-invasive. Furthermore, you will get to know the benefits of herbs and plants.

So, what does Mother Earth has to say about acne scar treatment? Listen to her wisdom

Water

Water makes up seventy per cent of Mother Earth. And water is essential to the physical well being of every living being. The skin of your body is also made up of water and it is important to drink a lot of water to keep your skin (including the skin of your face) well hydrated.

Remember to wash your face regularly with clean water. Clean water also cools the inflammation and keeps scarring at bay.

Herbs Look around you. You are surrounded with lush plants and greenery. They are soothing to your senses… and they might also play an important role in acne scar treatment.

There are some herbs and plants that might be suitable for treating unsightly acne scars as well as keep them from forming.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a good plant to use, especially to cool or reduce the inflammation caused by acne. It is also known for its gentle healing properties when it comes to scars, caused by either acne or other skin irritations. The liquid mucous substance that oozes out when you cut the tip of an aloe vera stalk is thought to reduce swelling and fights bacteria. Apply it to the scars regularly. It also reduces the oily secretions on the skin and acts as a good prevention against acne.

Lavender

Lavender smells heavenly. It is known to be good to stop scarring as well. Just use two drops of lavender essential oil and mix it with almond oil. Use medical gauze with this mixture and apply on the scars nightly.

Dandelion Root

For many people, the dandelion is a garden and yard pest. Yet, dandelion is known to be an edible herb, rich with nutrients. Dandelion root is great for acne scar treatment as it reduces toxicity and improves skin condition. It is a great purifier of the bloodstream. You can find dandelion root extracts in tablet or pill form.

Neem

Known as a revered Ayurvedic herb, neem is a tree found in India. It has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Neem can be used either in oil or powder form and is known to improve skin elasticity. You can also use neem powder to wash your face.

Tea Tree

The Tea Tree is found in Australia. It is anti-septic and anti-fungal. Mix two drops of tea tree oil with almond oil. Apply on affected skin/scars with medical gauze. Tea tree is also an effective acne scar treatment.

Onwards To Healing

Going herbal is a good way to start working closely with Mother Earth and her wisdom. For people with acne (and scarring) problems, the herbal route might be a suitable alternate as it is gentle and non-medical in nature. Some herbs are known to reduce the swelling and the scarring caused by acne. They are beneficial to the body’s physical well-being.

If you want to know more, just type in ‘herbal acne scar treatment’ into your search engine of choice. Always carry out some research before you embark on any healing process. It pays to know more information.

Always remember: Wash your face and do not pick your acne, even if it is ripe and tempting you to squeeze it.

New Acne Cream With Manuka Honey by Honeymark

Frank Buonanotte asked:

ney is the first breakthrough in the area of acne treatment in many years.  This special type of honey is produced by bees that feed on the nectar of the flowers that grow on the Manuka bush, which is indigenous to New Zealand.  It has been discovered that Manuka Honey contains extraordinary healing properties not found in other types of honey and even outperforms most medications.  Manuka Honey is not only effective in eliminating existing acne but it can also prevent new breakouts from forming under the skin.  It also treats acne in a way that is far less damaging to the skin than many other acne treatments.

The antibacterial properties present in Manuka Honey kills the excess bacteria that builds up on the skin. This bacteria can become trapped in hair follicles and pores. Once these bacteria enter the skin, they react with oil and other substances, resulting in acne.

Sometimes, traditional acne treatments can dry the skin.  However, Manuka Honey has a hydrating effect and natural moisturizing effect on the skin.  As a general rule, hydrated skin heals faster.  Also, unlike other ingredients commonly found in most acne products, Manuka Honey has been found to have no negative side effects.  Since Manuka Honey is a natural ingredient and an anti-irritant it doesn’t aggravate sensitive skin.

There are also other benefits to using Manuka Honey to treat acne.  For example, Manuka Honey has an anti-inflammatory action that relieves pain and reduces redness on the skin as a result of swelling and inflamed tissue.  If pimples become infected, Manuka Honey’s natural antibacterial properties go to work on disinfecting the area very quickly.  Manuka Honey also has an osmotic effect that has the ability to draw impurities out of pores, leaving the skin clean and smooth.

In some severe cases, acne can create scars.  When a scab forms over damaged skin, new skin growth can only occur under the scab, causing the new tissue to grow uneven with the surface of the skin.  This is how skin deformity and scars are formed.  However, the moist healing environment created by Manuka Honey naturally lifts scabs off the skin, allowing new skin tissue to grow flush with the surface of the skin.  This is another major benefit to using Manuka Honey to cure acne.

Manuka Honey unclogs pores by drawing impurities out of the skin. It also has the ability to draw moisture out of bacterial cells that may be present in acne breakouts, helping pimples to heal faster. All of these factors make Manuka Honey a valuable ingredient in Honeymark’s Acne Cream.  This unique formulation works very quickly so you won’t have to wait to see results.  When applying the Honeymark’s Acne Cream with Manuka Honey to pimples, you can expect to see a significant improvement within 2-4 days.

“The topical use of Manuka Honey helps maintain a positive skin environment which is why we use it as a main ingredient in our Acne Cream,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International.  “Manuka Honey has natural healing properties which help to repair skin affected by acne.”

Acne Scar Cure - Acne Scar Treatment

Juliet Cohen asked:

In most of the cases acne lesions get cured unnoticed leaving behind a trace of hyperpigmented or reddish marks on the skin. In a true sense these are not acne scars, rather postinflammatory changes initiated by our skin’s natural healing process which takes about 6 to 12 months to bring itself back to its normal healthy state, provided there is no more acne lesions erupted in that region. However, if any pigmentation or disfigurement persists for more than 1 year, it could be considered as an acne scar. Prevention is better than cure—this famous adage is quite relevant to handle postinflammatory changes caused by acne. As soon as you notice the first sign of acne outbreaks take necessary precautionary measures to remove them root and branch. Early stage mild lesions could be healed easily with the help of numerous topical over-the-counter products or home remedies.

You might follow some very simple defensive measures to avoid the formation of any red marks due to skin’s natural remodeling process. These measures would help you to speed up the healing process, thereby diminishing the likelihood of any postinflammatory changes to take place. Always use appropriate sun screen lotion to protect your skin from undue sun damage which might delay the healing process. Using appropriate formulations of tretinoin, alpha-hydroxy acids, and beta-hydroxy acids help to accelerate the repairing process and heal any red stain caused by acne. You might also see a doctor to ensure whether whatever you are following as acne treatment is the best one for you.

Based on the appearance acne scars are categorized as icepick, rolling, and boxcar. Icepick scars are sharp and narrow which usually extend up to deep subcutaneous layer. Rolling scars form due the tethering of top layer of the skin to the deep dermal tissue giving rise to an undulating shape. Boxcar scars are round to oval dentations over the skin. There are mainly two types of laser treatment: ablative or resurfacing and nonablative. While resurfacing laser technique is invasive in nature, the later acne scar cure is noninvasive and more effective in some cases. Both of the techniques are aimed at removing the scarred skin, rejuvenating the natural collagen formation, thereby fixing the contour of the skin and restoring a new healthy and glowing skin within a very short period.

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Acne is not only about the spots and scars which marr your body. It is such a problematic ailment because it is not only the redness and irritation that causes you problems. Acne can lead to psychological and emotional stress which is much more dangerous than the physical problems. When thinking of treatments you need to think about both of these factors.

So just how widespread is acne?

If you look at the statistics, acne is one of the most common of complaints for all western countries. For americans, fourty to fifty million people face this problem daily. Most of them are teenagers or adolescents from the age of eleven up to you ng adults up to 30. Most commonly, they have poor skin across the face, neck, back and chest.

Choosing the correct type of treatment which matches your symptoms - the severity of the acne as well as where it is located - is important. Not all treatments would be appropriate for all people. To choose the correct type of treatment you need to have information to hand to assist you in your decision.

If your acne and physical appearance are bothering you then you have a range of things that you coudl use to address the problesm, ranging from fairly mild to very invasive. You may want to try one or more of the following;

1. Autologous fat transfer

2. Collagen injection

3. Microdermabrasion

4. Dermabrasion

5. Skin grafting

6. Laser Treatment

7. Treatment of keloids

8. Skin Surgery

All of the above treatments are available to you providing you have the agreement of a professional dermatologist. You may expect that only those with very significant scaring or facial disfigurement would be able to have the above treatments, but this is not the case.

The right way to treat acne scars must be determined well so that you are able to have the results you want and to make sure that you gat value for money.
