If you want to try and eliminate those acne scars, just start applying some lemon juice on the scars that you have. Of course make sure you wash and cleanse your face first, and then dab on a bit of lemon juice.

Over the Counter Acne Scar Removal Products

You’ll also find that there are a variety of different over the counter options available when it comes to an acne scars cure. There are many great products out there that are relatively inexpensive.

Types of Acne Scars - Can Acne Scars be Removed?

Alien asked:

To understand scars, you need to understand acne. Acne refers to lesions or pimples caused when the hair follicles (or “pores”) on the skin become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Knowing acne scar types is an important issue because acne scar treatment, to a large extent, depends on its different categories. This acne scar type is also known as hypertrophic scars. Meaning of the term hypertrophic is overgrowth or enlargement. Keloids are formed due to overgrowth of collagen. Formation of collagen is otherwise a normal reaction of the skin to an injury which sometimes exaggerates abruptly and gives rise to bulge-like formation all over the skin surface. Each bulge measures around 1 to 2 mm in diameter and some are even larger in size. It has been observed that the tendency of keloid formation is transmitted through families, or in other words, they are genetically transmissible in nature. Therefore people who bear instances of keloid scar in their family are more susceptible to this type of strange growth of tissue. It is uncertain as to how long the keloids would persist; they might remain unchanged for years or even diminish in size over time.

Ice-pick scars: Ice-pick scars are steep and shallow in appearance. They are identified by jagged edges and steep sides. This type of acne scars is either hard or soft to touch. Soft scars have an advantage over their harder counterpart which is that they could be stretched in an attempt to fix the scar while the skin of hard scars can not be stretched. Ice-pick scars are more common on the cheeks.

Atrophic macules: This is yet another acne scar type that might appear both in face and body. The ones that appear on face are very tiny in size, while on back they take larger shape which might extend up to 1 cm or even larger. They are soft to touch, and usually have a slightly creased base. The blood vessels that lie right under the scar make it more visible by giving it a bluish appearance. However, the color changes in time and it gradually becomes bluish or ivory white and is hardly noticeable on skin surface.

Treating Early Acne Scars

Acne scars frequently heal by themselves after the underlying problem has been treated. Dermatologists have developed several approaches to treating acne scars, or pockmarks, that do not heal on their own.

The post-inflammatory changes caused by acne are part of the skin’s natural healing process. There are certain practices and medications that can help facilitate this healing process.

Dermabrasion is a treatment that involves physically scraping off the top layer of skin. After deep dermabrasion treatments, time off from work or school is needed for recovery. This method removes acne scars very effectively. The less invasive approach, microdermabrasion, scrapes off a very thin layer and doesn’t require recovery time away from work or school.

Surgical therapy

Subcision is a process used to treat deep rolling scars left behind by acne or other skin diseases. Essentially the process involves separating the skin tissue in the affected area from the deeper scar tissue. This allows the blood to pool under the affected area, eventually causing the deep rolling scar to level off with the rest of the skin area. Once the skin has leveled, treatments such as laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion or chemical peels can be used to smooth out the scarred tissue.

Acne Scar-New Developments For Reducing The Impact

Ingrid Lihan asked:

An acne scar in the past was an almost unavoidable result of an acne lesion.  The person suffering from acne is repeatedly warned in the literature and by well-meaning family and friends to keep their hands off the blackheads or whiteheads.  In particular, the individual is cautioned to never squeeze a zit or blackhead, since that can drive the bacteria causing the swelling and pain deeper under the surface of the skin. The larger the skin eruption and the more effort that is made to squeeze the residue from the follicle, the more likely you are to see permanent scarring at the site.

Understanding the Cause

Understanding the cause of acne can help to prevent the formation of an acne scar in many types.  There are many different types of acne that have been identified.  Some have identified cures or have responded well to active treatment. Other types of acne have no cure, but the symptoms can be managed or controlled.  The knowledge of what type of acne is involved is key to determining how to alleviate the symptoms without over medicating.  For extensive scarring due to most types of acne, the assistance of a cosmetic surgeon may be required. Modern techniques have made treatment possible and successful in most cases.

Early Treatment

To avoid the formation of acne scar tissue, early treatment is a key factor.  Don’t wait around for your adolescent to outgrow the symptoms.  While home remedies or natural remedies can be quite effective, it is important to visit a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment recommendations.  Usually mild or sporadic outbreaks can be treated with topical antibiotics, while more significant outbreaks may require more radical oral treatment or other type of remedies.  By treating early, the symptoms may be caught in time to prevent escalation of the condition.

Professional Assistance

Professional assistance to treat a recent or old acne scar is critical.  There are many reasons why treatment should be sought for removal of scars from the skin due to acne lesions. For those people who have careers where appearance is critical to success, a scar detracts from the chances of success in the chosen field.  Getting rid of the blemish is often a relatively simple procedure with new techniques making it possible to quickly and easily correct the problem. Other people who benefit from professional assistance to remove the scars include those individuals with low self esteem.

Self Esteem

Self esteem, particularly in those adolescents suffering from acne can be significantly reduced by even one acne scar on the face. Accordingly, the treatment of scars can be an important part of the total treatment for the symptoms of acne. It is perhaps more important that scars can be prevented in many cases through prompt and proactive treatment.  By treating the symptoms to prevent the formation of blackheads, whiteheads and lesions, and by reducing the severity and frequency of the outbreaks, many opportunities for negative blemishes will be eliminated. Combining various treatments including psychological counseling if needed will help to restore a positive self image.

How to Prevent Acne Scars

Nick Mutt asked:

Everyone suffers from acne at one time or another in life but only few of them are fortunate; the acne goes away without leaving the slightest mark or blemish. Others are less fortunate. For them, acne can be severe, often persisting and leaving unsightly scars.

If you have ever had acne (pimples) sometime in your life or are currently having it, you will find it is very easy to get scars and marks that will cause skin blemishes and leave scars on your face. These scars can be from light brown to dark brown. In extreme cases, it turns out to be black.

If you are looking for the ways how to prevent acne scars, the first and foremost tip is to treat the acne when it first appears. If you identify and treat acne early, you can prevent the tissue damage from happening.

If you already have acne scarring, there are several treatments (surgical and otherwise) available to lessen the intensity or even eliminate scarring. There are also many natural acne scarring products you can use to reduce the sight and pigmentation of acne scars.

Useful Tips to Prevent Acne Scars

Apply natural remedies like benzoyl peroxide or exfoliating cream on your pimples and zits. This will cleanse your skin pores and help in preventing acne.

Do not squeeze or pop their pimples. Popping will heighten the chances or scarring. When you squeeze a pimple, the material (oil, bacteria and skin cells) collected in the follicle can be forced deeper. If the follicle wall ruptures deep, the dermis can be infiltrated by this material, causing tissue damage.

If the pimple has become inflamed, try to avoid the sun. The UV rays can slow down your skin’s healing process and even cause additional damage.

Note: The reader of this article should exercise all precautionary measures while following instructions on the home remedies from this article. Avoid using any of these products if you are allergic to it.

Julia Carter asked:

So are you looking for an easy, natural acne scar treatment method to get a clear, attractive skin again? Then this article will help you find the best solutions possible.

As you may know, there are lots of various methods for removing acne scars, but some of them are either not convenient or very expensive.

But natural acne scar removal methods are not only natural and healthy, but also more affordable.

Because not everyone wants to go under a painful surgery to remove the acne scar, or page a lot of money for laser acne scar removal.

And the good news is, there are a few effective, easy ways to remove the scar easily and naturally.

Here are some tips for the most effective natural ways…

1. Acne Scar Removal Creams

There are some effective creams you can use to remove your acne scars. You simply should apply them once or twice a day for a certain number of days until the scar is healed.

These creams are very easy to use and are quite effective. Also they are very affordable, and natural.

But it is important that you choose a cream that actually works, because there are also some not so effective brands out there too.

2. Other Natural Acne Scar Removal Methods

There are some other natural treatment methods that you can find out in this helpful free guide at the site above.

As the final tip, it is always easier to prevent acne scars rather than try to cure them. So when you get acne, be careful to treat it very carefully and not touch it or play with it too much, to prevent it from breaking and leaving a scar.

Also there are some scars that are temporary, so if you get a scar after your acne is cured, don’t worry immediately. It may be just a temporary scar that will go away it self in a few days or up to 2 weeks.

Understanding Acne Scar Removal Treatment Options

Tamsin Gray asked:

Once thought of as a common problem of teenagers, acne is actually a common problem for people of all ages including young children and adults. And far from being just accepted as a passing phase of growing up, acne should be given due attention in seeking treatment to avoid subsequent acne scars as an unfortunate result of not seeking early treatment.

Although various forms of acne scar removal treatment is available, some scars may be too deep seated to be successfully removed which may affect self confidence adversely, leading to other psychological problems in life.

Acne is a disorder caused by hormonal action on sebaceous glands which are the oil glands of the skin. Even more distressing are the scars left behind by acne which are often permanent, affecting both the personal and professional life of those who suffer from it.

This often leads to a desperate search for acne scar treatment of which fortunately, a variety of treatments are available today. However care has to be taken in choosing which treatment to undergo as a person’s medical history, acne scar condition and even budget are among the factors which have to be taken into consideration.

If scars are not too severe and you would like to give natural remedies a try before seeking stronger acne scar treatments, there are many home remedies that are believed to be effective. Ingredients from fruits and vegetables are often found in skin care products and home remedies are used to achieve similar effects.

Among the recommended natural ingredients to use are lemon juice, tomatoes, cucumbers and even a mixture of sandalwood and rose water. Natural oils such as lavender, tea tree and rosehip seed oils are also beneficial for healing acne scars.

For faint scars, acne scar creams and lotions may be sufficient. These products contain skin lightening agents to help lighten acne scars to give the impression of a smooth even skin surface. Some contain skin renewal activators and biological enzymes that gently dissolve damaged or worn out cells and stimulate skin regeneration.

The next level of acne scar treatment is using chemical peels. There are several types of chemical peels with varying strengths. Superficial scars can be effectively treated with chemical peels that are commonly used to treat skin damaged by the sun and for irregular pigmentation. A special chemical is applied to the acne scar area and after several minutes, the peel is removed together with the damaged top layer of skin. Thus, a new top layer of skin cells is regenerated.

Some of the more intensive and expensive acne scar removal treatments include dermabrasion, laser treatment, collagen and steriod injections, and surgical procedures like autologous fat transfer and punch grafts. These often require multiple treatments and long maintenance procedures.

To avoid having to seek acne scar removal treatment, where the process is either expensive or tedious but very often both, consult your dermatologist at an early stage before the acne has a chance to cause deep-seated damage to skin. Corrected blemished skin will never be able to match the smoothness and appearance of natural, healthy skin.
